How to rank Higher on Google?

Keep an eye on your technical SEO.

Technical SEO isn’t an issue for 90% of the websites out there.

If everything you see is green, you’re good to go.

In the realm of SEO, “Search Intent” is the new buzzword.

I intended to rank for the keyword “Conversion Rate Optimization” a few years ago.

However, Google eventually realized that users looking for “Conversion Rate Optimization” didn’t want a long list of methods.

And, as this Google Analytics picture shows, organic traffic to that page has been steadily declining.

So, after some thought, I decided to find out what the actual Search Intent for “Conversion Rate Optimization” was.

First, I considered what someone searching for that keyword on Google could be looking for.

And I recognized that they are likely looking for content that includes the following:

  • A description of how CRO works, as well as a definition of what CRO is.
  • Case studies of CRO in action
  • Getting Started Advice

Second, I examined what was already on the first page of results.

And I immediately saw that nearly every result on the first page contained everything that my content lacked.

(Most of it comes in the form of a massive beginner’s handbook.)

As a result, I entirely rewrote my content from the ground up.

Conversion Rate Optimization: The Definitive Guide is based on that set of approaches.
My page now receives 214 percent more organic traffic than before since it fits Search Intent.
What’s the bottom line? If you want to enhance your Google ranking, make sure your page is a perfect match for what people are looking for.

When you do, Google will be DESPERATE to show your site to as many people as possible. As a result, any strong SEO plan must start with giving Google what it wants.

 Lower Your Bounce Rate

The next thing we’ll do is work on lowering your site’s bounce rate.

What is the significance of this?

This is a strong indication to Google that consumers are dissatisfied. You can kiss your rankings goodbye if users aren’t happy.

  • It goes without saying that aligning your content with Search Intent is a fantastic method to lower your bounce rate.
  • After all, you’re providing the information that a searcher is seeking for. Why are they bouncing?
  • Aside from Search Intent, there are a few easy things you can do to lower your bounce rate.
  • First, have a peek at the “Above The Fold” portion of your website.
  • When visitors arrive to your website, this is the first thing they see.
  • And, in my experience, what individuals see here has a big impact on whether or not they bounce.
  • Pushing your information to the top is the most important thing you can do to optimize your above-the-fold area. As a result, Google searchers will have an easier time finding what they’re looking for.

For instance, you can see that my material is right at the top of my page.

  • You should also structure your page so that users can easily find what they’re looking for.
  • You may have noticed, for example, that I added a table of contents to the top of this page.
  • People will be able to skip straight to the step they’re most interested in.

Finally, include images, movies, charts, screenshots, selfies, and other forms of visual content on your page.

  • This also contributes to my poor bounce rate.

Identify Additional Keywords to Target

At this stage, your site should begin to rise in Google’s rankings.

  • And what’s the simplest method to do it?
  • Optimize your page with a variety of keywords.

Here’s how it works in detail.

  • To begin, go to the “Performance on Search Results” section in Google Search Console.
  • After that, look over the inquiries for which you have a high ranking.
  • Most of these will be familiar to you because you have already optimized your web pages for these specific keywords.

However, every now and then, you’ll stumble upon a keyword for which you aren’t optimizing.

  • Consider how simple it will be to rank for that term if you actually TRY.
  • People searching for “YouTube video description example,” for example, send me a small amount of traffic.

However, I don’t have a page optimized for that specific keyword.

  • Instead, anybody looking for that keyword will come upon this page on my site.
  • An example of a video description can be seen on this page.

However, it isn’t actually optimized for that word.

  • So I’d go back to that page and repeat that phrase several times. 
  • I could also construct a brand-new page dedicated to that keyword.

Either way is OK.

Rinse and repeat the process several times more.

Publish Insanely High-Quality Content

You’ve probably heard that “publishing high-quality content” is required to rank in Google.

  • While this is true, it is also extremely difficult to implement.
  • (After all, what does “high-quality content” actually mean?)

So, yeah, you DO want to create excellent content for your website.

However, it must be the type of high-quality information that people would share and link to on social media.

That’s because, as you may be aware, Google’s algorithm is heavily influenced by backlinks.

  1. The higher your site ranks, the more backlinks it has.
    And what is the most effective strategy to increase the number of backlinks to your website?
  2. Publish information that will be linked to by others.

(Also referred to as “link bait.”)

Here are a few strategies for increasing the likelihood of people linking to your work.

  • Assume the role of a data source.
  • To put it another way:
  • Publish something that others can use as a reference in their blog posts.

For instance, consider the year 2019. For this massive email outreach study, we collaborated with Pitch box.

This article was jam-packed with facts, numbers, and statistics. Bloggers and journalists adore linking to this type of content.

One of our results, for example, was that just about 10% of all outreach emails obtain a response.
Bloggers and media promptly cited that statistic as proof that most outreach efforts fail.

Prioritize long-form content.

Back in step #1, I mentioned a little bit about longer material.

Longer material, it turns out, is also good for garnering links.
While there is no “ideal” word length for blog posts, content with 3000 words or more seems to perform well in terms of link development.

Track and Monitor Your Results

I’m referring to things like:

  • Infographics
  • Maps
  • Charts
  • Flowcharts
  • Videos

Visual material is quite effective at attracting links.

For example, we released this infographic on our site a while back.
To get the word out, we had to undertake a lot of email outreach.

However, once we got our infographic in front of the proper people, they were delighted to put it on their blog.
Step #8: Create Backlinks to Your Site Creating fantastic content is nice and all, but it’s not enough.

However, in order for your content to generate links, people must actually see it.

To put it another way:

You can’t just “publish and hope” for others to link to you when it comes to content marketing.

That’s because your content is only one drop in a sea of daily blog articles, videos, Instagram stories, and Facebook postings.

According to WordPress, 70 million new posts are published every month.

The conclusion here is that you must actively market your content if you want people to connect to it.

This was originally posted on another site in my field (search engine optimization). So that’s a big checkmark.

  • It was also one of two guest pieces I wrote that month.
  • That hardly qualifies as “large-scale” guest blogging.
  • In addition, there were no keywords in my link back to my site.
  • As a result, Google would deem this guest post to be acceptable.

Pages of Information

With resource pages, link building is a breeze.

That’s because resource pages are pages produced by someone to link to the greatest information on a particular topic.

For instance, I have a reference page dedicated to helping people understand SEO quickly.
This page also contains connections to useful information on keyword research, content, and other topics.

So, if you have a great SEO resource, I might consider including it on that page.

Keep an eye on your progress.

  • As a result, your site should start to rank higher on Google than before.
  • That’s fantastic.
  • But how can you know whether your rankings are actually helping you?


Without personally reviewing your rankings every hour, how can you maintain track of your SEO results?

That is the purpose of this step. I’ll show you how to track your results like an expert in this stage.

“Organic Traffic” in Google Analytics

Rankings are fantastic and all, but they aren’t everything. Organic traffic, on the other hand, is unrivalled when it comes to assessing the effectiveness of SEO marketing.

(In other words, traffic derived straight from search engines.)

This is primarily due to the fact that rankings can be deceptive.

In reality, according to an industry research conducted by Ahrens, being first in Google isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
They discovered that the website with the highest Google rating does not always receive the most traffic.

What gives that this is possible?

First, let’s look into organic CTR.

In the next phase, I’ll go through that in great detail.

However, as a brief overview, the Google #2 result occasionally receives more clicks than the #1 result.

You’ve just doubled your traffic from that term if you can double your organic click-through rate.
Second, a single page can appear in search results for THOUSANDS of different keywords.

Let’s pretend you’re number one for keyword A. Your competitor is ranked second for the same phrase.
On the other side, your opponent ranks #1 for keywords B, C, and D.

They’ll probably get more Google traffic than you because they rank for more keywords.

In brief, there’s a site for tracking your Google ranks. Organic traffic, on the other hand, is the gold standard of SEO tracking.

“Impressions” and “Clicks” in Google Search Console

This is an excellent addition to the Google Analytics organic traffic report that we just discussed.

This Search Console report essentially tells you how many people have seen your site. How many of those people visited your website?
As you may assume, the more visitors who view your site through Google and click on it, the better.

Sales and Leads

To put it another way, is this rush of traffic genuinely helping the company’s bottom line?

This is a question that many people overlook. However, if you want to see a significant return on investment from SEO, you need to know if all of these new visitors are converting into consumers.

There are a zillion ways to keep track of this. But it’s the Goals function in Google Analytics that I really like.

That’s exactly what we’re doing here to figure out which pages are bringing in the most email subscribers.

Step 1: Increase Your Click-Through-Rate

It’s no secret that Google’s algorithm includes click-through-rate.

Several studies (including this one) have discovered a link between “Expected CTR” and Google ranks.
To put it another way,

  • You’ll normally rank higher if your organic CTR is higher.
  • That’s because a high CTR indicates to Google that your page is relevant to the searchers’ needs.
  • They’ll also improve your page’s search engine rankings, making it easier for others to locate it.

Here are a few easy techniques to increase your clicks:
